First Day of School

Call me crazy but the First Day is just as important no matter the age and today was Addison's official first day of the school year.

Love that smile and the crazy hair!
Check out those rolls peeking out from her dress!

I asked Addison to go stand by her sign and this is what I got.  It works.
"Momma, I LOVE my new shoes!"
And a little treat for her teacher...
Praying for an even better year than last year!

Mr. Bear's Adventures

Or ... maybe we should start saying Mrs. Bear.
Josh and I were talking a couple mornings ago and look over to Addison and find this.  Our thought was where does she learn this!?  We were amazed and she was so serious about her time with Mr. Mrs. Bear we did not think of interrupting.

First... a little talk face to face

Then a little dress up...

Then some tea... or milk will do.

And a little stroll...

Who knows what she was thinking in this last picture but it makes me laugh.  It looks like she was having a serious moment... a "Mr. Bear are you okay" moment.

We just love her and her little mind.

A Day at the Beach

Weekend before last my sweet friend, Jennifer, and her family were in Dallas for a little family vacation.  Jennifer and I worked together for many years in Oklahoma and now that she stays home with her little ones and we live in Texas, we don't get to see if other as often as we would like but we still stay in touch which I love.  She was so kind to think of us when she was coordinating all her fun activities and scheduling their trip.  A must on the agenda and a great way to wrap up their vacation was a trip to the beach!
{Ellie, Avery and Addison}
But... before we get to the bathing beauties, we had some fun around the house.
This sweet face arrived Friday evening.  Ellie is 8 months old and is Jennifer and Ronnie's youngest.   She brought along her parents and older sister, of course.
It is a little hard to tell but that is Addison AND Avery in her cozy coupe.  I love this picture.  I can see this being Addison with a baby brother or sister one day.  Just precious.  Avery was so kind and patient with our little 15 month old.
Miss Avery Grace - 4 years
This was after Addison's burn incident... not even phased.
Hilarious...these two were a bit dizzy after this little ride.  Look at their faces!
Miss Ellie just hanging out...
And Addison literally hanging out... I mentioned in our last post, Addison is signed up for gym class.  She is more than ready.

Phew... after dinner and some fun at the park, it was bath time for the babes.  Then some reading time...
I think Addison was CRUSHING Avery.  She is a giant compared to little Ellie.

Saturday morning we moved slower than usual with Addison taking an unexpected nap but we were off to the beach eventually...
Avery is a fish... diving for rings and swimming like she is 12.  She absolutely loves the water.
Ellie got in on the action too for a little bit...

Our nugget took her time to warm up to the beach... we woke her from her nap so we could get on with our day and she wasn't quite ready for that but we got there.
Snack time! Remember, that is one of Addison's favorite parts of going to the pool.

Meanwhile, Ellie was all about her siesta.

Sweet sisters

We had so much fun with the Morris family and cannot wait to get together again...maybe in Oklahoma sooner than later!
Thanks so much for coming to visit and including our family in your family vacation.

On a side note and despite what the pictures show, I promise there were adults present and supervising all activities.

Addison: 15 Months

Sweet girl, this is such a fun age and you have been growing and learning more and more everyday.  You are just over 14 months in these pictures and the details are more of what you are doing at 15.5 months.  It has been busy around here the last couple months but I told myself I would update at each of your doctor appointments this year so here it is... just a bit overdue.

Here is what you are up to at 15 months.  You...
- Love music and love to dance, one of our favorite things to watch you do; lately you have starting "twirling".  I don't know where you got it from but you get so dizzy at times.
- Are always waving, to everyone and anyone.  You have gone from the open hand wave to actually opening and closing your hand in the past month.
- Sign "more" with your hands and we often hear "More Momma" along with it which sounds mostly like "mmommomma"
- Love your books and we love this about you.  We will often find you in the corner of your room with your books reading to yourself.  Books go everyone with us.  I would say they are your favorite "toy".  Your favorite read right now is The Very Hungry Caterpillar. You flip straight through to the page with all of the sweets to go item by item, pointing at each.  It would be a long read but not for you.... sweets and the butterfly.  Done.

- Play so well by yourself and are starting to really get into girly things like necklaces and bracelets and feeding your "babies" which includes any and every baby doll and stuffed animal you have.
- Shake your head no when you don't want something and say "nnnah"
- Point your finger at what you want and more often than not accompany that with a grunt/whine
- Are getting your molars and are handling it like a champ.  You now have 11 teeth:  top 2 molars, bottom left molar, top 4 middle and bottom 4 middle.  Your "canine" teeth are on their way...
- Follow direction really well like "bring Mommy a book" or "take that to Daddy", etc.  If we point to something you follow it very well.
- When I ask you if you are ready for dinner, you will walk to stand by your chair.  We are using your booster seat more and more now over your highchair.
- Walk/run straight to your bathroom after dinner when we say "It's bathtime!"  It's a nightly thing and you love it.  We tried bathing without your seat for about a week but you are way to fearless for this Momma so we now bathe in the seat and wash your hair then you get to "swim" before we get out.
- Have quite the personality and can turn on an attitude pretty quick.  We have had our share of tantrums where we move you to the carpet so you don't hurt yourself and let you have your moment...sometimes upwards of 10 minutes.  It's definitely not frequent but whoa.
{perfect example}
{still not quite over it}
- Love the beginning and end of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.  You could really careless about the actual show but always dance and wave at Mickey when you hear the songs.
- Are going forward on your riding toy all by yourself after months of only going backwards.
- Still love your Cozy Coupe.  We recently took the bottom out of it so you can start using your feet.  Occasionally you fall through but you don't mind.
- Still love your Wubbanubs for sleep time and will use a regular pacifier when you are awake but it is usually only when you are sleepy.
- Love your ears.  We are not sure what that is about.
- Give kisses...melts my heart every time.
- Are getting better and better in the mornings for drop off at school.  We haven't had tears for a couple weeks now and that gets both our mornings off to such a better start.
- LOVE to climb and are into everything, everywhere.  We just enrolled you in a gym class and I know you will love it!  At home you climb on everything...ottomans, end tables, bar stools...

- Are talking up a storm!  Things you can say (and we can tell what it is):

  • Da-dee (Daddy)
  • Mmmoma (Momma)
  • Mo-Mo (Elmo)
  • Nana (banana)
  • Nana (Nana)
  • A-son (Addison)
  • Ahh-si (outside)
  • Bah (ball)
  • A-pul (apple)
  • Hmm-Hmm (ruff-ruff, anytime you see or hear a dog)
  • Nnah (no)
  • Kahh (car)
  • My (mine) - we need to put an end to this word.

- Are a pretty good eater!  Here are some of your favorites:

  • Fruit - bananas, watermelon and cantelope are your favorites
  • Chicken breast - you love chicken breast meat more than nuggets
  • Macaroni and Cheese
  • Blueberry waffles
  • Anything you see on the counter that fits in your snack cup (animal crackers, graham crackers, nilla wafers, gold fish)
  • Are not a fan of bread.  You will eat pizza but that is as close to bread as you get.  No toast, sandwiches, or plain bread for you for some reason.
  • We have introduced you to all of the first year No-foods and you have done great.  We are still holding out on peanut butter until you are 2 or Dr. G gives the okay.
You are wearing:

  • 18 months clothes and a few 24 months here and there.
  • Size 5 shoes
  • Size 4 diapers, no night-timers anymore

You are our world and will always be our baby girl!
We love you Addison Leigh!

Bumps and Bruises

Walking for Addison means the beginning of bumps and bruises.  I'll take it considering we haven't really had any bumps and bruises until now.

A little over a month ago, Addison was racing a little girl into class at school.  Good news...she won.  Bad news... she hit a table on her way in.   I have signed my fair share of "incident reports" at school but this was really the first one that left a mark.
So, first black eye - check.

It didn't slow her down AT ALL.
And just last weekend, I left her unattended in her room for .2 seconds when I hear a screaming cry.  I rush in and find her holding her reading lamp... by the bulb... that was turned on.  Her lamp is never on, ever, unless we are reading before bed because she is known to grab it.  This one time we happened to have company in town and I turned it on for the ambiance.  Ya know, to make the "house feel homey". What was I thinking!?
So, first burn - check.
We think Addison is going to be a righty but this little event has her working with her left hand more and more.
{heavy duty bandage just to keep a small band-aid on}

Addison got a good blister on one of her fingers which I have learned is a good sign that it isn't a 3rd-degree burn.  Seriously.  Luckily, we were headed to the pediatrician the following Tuesday for her 15-month checkup so I knew he would take a good look, as well as give Momma a good scolding.  He was pretty nice about it but we got some antibiotic cream to use until it is healed.
Mom of the year right here!
